Sheffield Bazaar- More Than Just A Department Store
Sheffield Bazaar was a large arts exhibition that took place during Festival of the Mind 2014 on the abandoned ground floor of Castle House. Felicity Hoy was joint curator with Proffessor Vanessa Toulmin; with special thanks to Anthony Bennett and Sara Unwin. The exhibition was funded by Arts Council England and gave 20 artists £1000 each to create new work on the themes: Change, Chaos, Global, Joy, Resilience and Urban. The work also had to take into context the situation of the surrounding Castlegate area and pose questions about future development. Commissioned artists include: Anna Olenjnicki, Cella Studio, Dan Butlin, Dave Wood, Dj Dirtyfreud, Gerry Kirby, Helen Cocker, Karl Olsen, Lydia Bennett, OPERA, Matt Williamson, Michael Day, Mir Jansen, Phlegm, Rob Lee, Rocket01, Sandra Prince, Sarah Clough, Steve Pool and Stuart Faulkner
The aim of animating the building was to bring it back into use; thanks to this project over £2million has since been invested into Castle House.
