Travel

When I was 24 I travelled around South East Asia for 8 months. I started in Beijing and travelled South visiting Xi' an, Shanghai, Souzhou, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Guilin, Yangzhou, Dali, Lijiang and across the border to Vietnam. I spent a month in Vietnam travelling on a bus to the South through Sa Pa, Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hué, Hoi An, Nha Trang, Da Lat and Ho Chi Minh City. Taking a boat over the Mekong I ended up in Cambodia visiting Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville, Angkor, Siem Reap and many other little towns. On to Thailand where I travelled North stopping off at many destinations (Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, Chang Mai) before reaching the beautiful Pai in North Thailand. Over to Laos where a month was spent on bicycles  through rural areas, sipping coffees in Luang Prabang and then back through Thailand to Koh Tao, Malasia to the Perentian Islands, Singapore and on to Australia.

I lived in Melbourne, Australia for a year which has been a huge inspiration to me. Melbourne is full of independent shops, public art, performance and music. They have large, affluent shopping streets but they've also made space for independents in the Laneways. The Laneways are full of legal graffiti walls offering artists opportunities to adorn the streets with their work. The two combined makes the creative culture there fantastic, free and something everyone can be part of.  It was a very colourful place.

It is important to make connections with other parts of the world but also to look out and constantly be inspired by new ideas. I can't travel as often now but I find Pinterest is a great way of finding inspiration from across the Globe.
